Old and New

I am abandoning My Favourite for When I Grow Up.

Why?

My Favourite was an idea from Madison magazine I think the March issue when they did a 'My Kitchen' spread. I thought I could do something like that every week and show off my home and what is important to me.

Then I found Hello Owl and her My Place And Yours meme. It was so similar. Oops. I thought I'd stick it out regardless although I did feel bad.

Now I've created a new one, When I Grow Up. It's all about people I admire, whether it be for their career, personal views or fashion.

I came up with this idea when I saw a photo of Florence Welch and told the mister I wanted to be her when I grew up. I say that a lot. So When I Grow Up began.

Phew... now that is that.

My Favourite - Bedroom

I love beautiful things whether they are cheap or expensive.

I love meaningful things whether significant or insignificant.

My favourite thing in my bedroom is both beautiful and meaningful.
It is a glass bowl with a lid that belonged to my Opa.

It used to sit on his coffee table filled with lollies.
My dad has one too. Quite possibly the whole family has one each.

It carries many memories for me so when I received it after my Opa moved to his nursing home I immediately had to find a way that I can use it every day. It also had to be in a safe environment away from prying toddler fingers.

The best thing way I could think of using it was as a jewellery holder.
It now sits proudly on our dressing table holding my most prized jewellery.

Maybe one day it will hold lollies and become a favoured memory for munchkin like it was for me.

My Favourite - Outside

We are very fortunate where we live. We are the only unit here to have two courtyards, one out the front and one out the back.

As the unit is relatively small the outdoor spaces definitely expand the space. It's wonderful for an exploring and active toddler.

We use our back undercover patio as our dining room/common room. There are three gardens, stones and stairs beyond that. It's wonderful.

Our front courtyard is amazing. It's luscious, spacious and it's all taken care of by the caretaker's gardeners. Awesome!
The gate can be locked so munchkin can play out there as much as he wants without 'escaping'.
There is an amazing chair in the middle of beautiful plants.

Munchkin loves to climb it and I love sitting there reading. It's our magical chair. The fairies left it there for our peace time.
The beautiful shrub has overtaken the three pots in there and I wouldn't change it for anything. It's beautiful.
See our magical peaceful chair. It's perfect. Better than a hammock.

When I learn how to meditate I will do so on this chair. It will become my peaceful, meditating centre.

I'm in LOVE with that chair. I wonder if they'll notice it missing when we move?

My Favourite - Bathroom

This is a bit of a strange one as my favourite thing in our bathroom doesn't actually have anything bathroomy about it.
Those photos in that frame are my favourite thing in our bathroom.

My best friend made it for me for my 24th birthday last year. Every time I look at it I think of our family and of her.

Munchkin loves it too. He points to everyone saying who they are and pulling the faces he is doing in the photos.

Thank you Miss Paula!

My Favourite - Lounge

I like books. No surprise there.

We have two bookcases in our house. One is in our lounge and one is in munchkin's room. Both have books in them.  Munchkin's may not be full but it still has books.

Why do people buy BOOKcases and put everything but books in them? Ahh.. they are called bookcases for a reason.
Anyway, it should be of no surprise that my favourite part of our lounge room is our bookcase. It's beautiful. Well, it's actually not. But the books and photos make it so.
Here it is closer;
I need another bookcase. I have to lay the books on the top of other books. Granted all the Goosebump books can go in munchkin's bookcase but that requires EFFORT.

Ok top shelf there are photos and candles with the books. Most of my books are non-fiction. I am a sucker for biographies especially if drugs and prostitution are involved. I don't know why, it just is.

See the car? That was the mister's present to himself last Christmas. He bought an Audi R8. He told everyone that too. The ones that don't know him too well were really impressed and didn't ask for dimensions. Suckers!

Third shelf has some of my incense stash. They were put there so munchkin would stop using them as his comfort toy. I started to worry after he kept taking a different one to bed. I know aromatherapy oils can be dangerous so thought maybe so could incense. I am still yet to know.
The fourth shelf in this photo looks like it can fit more books. It did. It is now full as.

I have quite a few textbooks. Most are outdated, meaning they are more than six months old. The Social Psychology ones are most interesting as they are from the 1970's when my mum studied some psychology. So many of the studies are unethical yet taught us so much.

That is one of our bookcases. A lot of my books are elsewhere (I'm looking at you mother and Juliet). Again, I love books.

My Favourite - Kitchen

Everyone has a favourite place in every room of their home, right? Please tell me I'm not the only one. I thought I'd show you mine, starting with the kitchen.

I understand that most people would show their fancy oven or at least something to do with cooking. I don't cook, often. So no, you won't see my oven (it's not that special anyway) and actually there is only one thing to do with cooking in my favourite section of the kitchen. To my mum, yes I have even used it. I'm domesticated.

Here is my favourite section of the kitchen (minus the knives);
Here it all is in more detail;
One of my fabulous aunts bought the below Taurus picture for my birthday last year. It's perfect as munchkin and I are both Taureans (yeah, I know the fights are going to be epic when he is older).

Next to that is a metal jar from my Valentine's flowers this year and I've filled them with tea-light and Ikea candles. It not only looks good but it'll be fabulous when a blackout happens.
Above are built in shelves next to our wine glass cupboard. We don't drink wine. Luckily also in there are beer glasses. We drink beer.

I love teapots. No I don't drink tea (see the pattern).

The top shelf has a clear glass teapot we bought from T2, a Christmas decoration munchkin made at daycare and the PEACE letters I bought from Crazy Clarks at Christmas time.

The bottom shelf has a mini teapot and a teapot, cup and saucer all given to me by my mummy. She knows me too well. The photo is from our Sydney trip last year and is in an Ikea frame. The little silver bracelet was bought for munchkin from the mister but munchkin knows how to get it off so he doesn't wear it :(
The painted hearts were last years Valentine's Day present from munchkin to the mister. Easiest craft ever.

The canvas painting was done for the mister by munchkin as last years Father's Day present (see the pattern). We like painting.

Our house phone/internet is iinet love. I adore Bob. He is so helpful in my Big Love and Hoarders addiction.
This is the only cooking thing here (the knives don't count). My grandma gave it to me for Christmas. She has written her favourite recipes in there and I've added to it (banana muffins, I said I don't cook).

Above that is one rose I kept from Valentine's Day. I like roses, especially dried ones. I also like keeping things that make me smile. This rose is one of those things.
These are my guardian angels; my angel and turtle crystals. They go perfect there and I like teaching munchkin about being careful with crystals and their meaning.

I have crystals all over the house. One sits on our desk, a few in our TV cabinet and a bunch are still in storage. Munchkin has a couple of crystals he has chosen that are in his room.

There you have it. My favourite part of our kitchen.

What's your favourite thing/s in your kitchen?
